A christening and dedication ceremony will be held for Hall County Fire Services’ new marine rescue boat Thursday at Laurel Park.
The ceremony will follow a 3 p.m. “Summer of Safety” press conference jointly hosted by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
The Hall County Board of Commissioners voted to approve the purchase of the new vessel in March in order to have it in service in time for Lake Lanier’s busy Memorial Day weekend. The 23-foot rescue boat is larger than the fire department’s previous boat, allowing first responders better clearance for life saving efforts. It also is expected to have a significantly longer life span and will cost less to maintain.
“The new marine rescue boat will help save lives on Lake Lanier,” Hall County Fire Chief Jeff Hood said. “We look forward to using this piece of equipment to serve visitors and citizens on the lake this summer and throughout the year.”
