The Hall County Sheriff's Office, along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, is investigating the death of an inmate housed at the Hall County Jail.
Friday night just before 8:00 PM, 29 year-old Nathaniel Joel Whited, of Flowery Branch, was found unresponsive in his cell by jail personnel. On-duty medical personnel attempted resuscitative efforts, but were unsuccessful.
Mr. Whited had been housed at the jail since February 4, 2010 and had recently been sentenced to twenty years, with five to be served in custody, for child molestation. He suffered from a number of chronic medical conditions and had recently been hospitalized. Due to his medical condition he was being cared for in the medical section of the facility.
At this time foul play is not suspected, and an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. It is standard procedure for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to be called in to investigate all in-custody deaths in Georgia.
